The centre, established in a complex built in 1874, serves as home of the Bekes County Symphony Orchestra, a puppet theatre group, a training school for actors, and also hosts a chamber theatre.
The centre has been co-financed with 2.1 million euros from the Norwegian Fund, which Norway had set up for the new EU countries, said Ambassador Siri Ellen Sletner at the opening.
Providing this kind of support from the fund is an excellent vehicle to further develop the country's already well-established relations with Hungary, especially in the field of culture, the ambassador said.
She said that despite the fact that Norway is not an EU member, it belongs to Europe and is a partner in the cooperation of European countries.
