Both well known representatives of Scandinavian folk-metal, Enslaved and Vreid last played Budapest in March 2005 to praises for listeners.
Enslaved was formed in Bergen in 1991. Its five members set out to write music rooted in black metal but mixed with a broad range of other styles to create their own unique sound. The band won Norway?s top music award for their album Ruun, which was just released this year. Ruun offers an overview of the band?s 15-year history, combining dark Viking-metal with progressive themes. Some listeners say the album has made the band?s music accessible to a wider group of listeners.
Videos for two songs off Ruun, ?Path of Vanir? and ?Essence?, are expected to further boost the band?s popularity. The latter clip can be viewed at the band?s website at http://www.myspace.com/enslavedmusic
Vreid, which is the Norwegian word for wrath, was formed from members of the band Windir. On its website, the band describes its sound as ?a mixture of the ambience of Windir, the rawness of Norwegian black metal and the rocking groove of Sepultura, Metallica and Motorhead.?
The band released their second album, Pitch Black Brigade, in April 2006.
