?The strong cast was led by the bright-voiced soprano Beverly O?Regan Thiele as the flamboyant Arkadina. Molly Mustonen brought a rich soprano voice and lovely grace to Nina. The baritone Jonathan Hare was full of bluster as the writer Trigorin. Zsolt Haja, a handsome young Hungarian baritone with a robust, earthy voice, was especially good as Constantine,? said the critic Anthony Tommasini.

The leads will sing in the Hungarian city of Szeged in November as the contest continues.

The Dicapo Opera is participating in the Armel Opera Competition and Festival for the third time this year. It brought Robert Ward?s The Crucible to the contest in 2008 and Tobias Picker?s Emmeline in 2009. Both productions were directed by Róbert Alföldi. This year?s production is directed by the young Hungarian Mária Harangi.
