"Hungary is pleased to host any initiative that promotes cultural diversity and cooperation," Istvan Hiller told the conference. He added that the opera house in Budapest celebrates its 125th anniversary this year.
The conference will address topics such as how to make good opera for the 21st century in Central Europe, the co-existence of opera and ballet companies in the same building, and the influence of avant-garde art and film on contemporary opera.
Some 112 opera houses in 33 countries are members of Opera Europa.
