"Stravinsky experimented with very different genres in these compositions - Renard is a burlesque, Mavra is an opera buffa and The Soldier's Tale is an opera - so we started experimenting, too, says director Attila Vidnyánszky.

"The fact that acting school students are involved in the performance gave us the inspiration to show audiences something about the theatre and the development of performances through these three stories."

First conductor János Kovács will take the baton for the premiere, but he will hand it over to Géza Köteles and Szabolcs Sándor for the following six performances. Kovács said he wanted to make a practice of this in the future.

Chief director Lajos Vass said the Thália Theatre, which the opera is using while its Erkel Theatre is renovated, serves as an excellent venue for the performance.

"These pieces were first performed in the Paris Opera and they were not instantly successful. Part of the reason was that they did not work well in a large space. Hence, the Thália Theatre as a venue has been a fortunate choice," he said

The set and costume designer for the production is the Ukrainian Alexandr Belozub. The libretto has been translated from the Russian by Géza Oberfrank and János Lackfi.
