The new theatre floor should be in place within a week, said technical director Lázsló Czeiner. A special type of pine was chosen for the floor, as it is flexible enough for the ballet dancers' feet, but strong enough to bear a load of 500 kilogrammes per square metre as required by regulations, he added.
All of the stage equipment is also being closely examined to determine what must be repaired or replaced. Czeiner noted that the stage ropes are checked four times a year.
A public procurement procedure has been called to replace the stage curtain. If all goes well, the fabric could be ready as soon as September, but then it must be sewn together. The Bayreuth-type curtain will not be hung until January, when the opera has a week-long break.
