Opera Viva Studio Accepting Applications for Next Academic Year

Opera Viva offers training for beginners to advanced singers and aims to assist young singers break into the profession. Core training subjects include vocal and musical interpretation; characteristics of musical eras; musical, dramaturgical, and stage analysis of operatic works; text comprehension and interpretation; analysis of the relationship between text and music; articulation; role interpretation; role practice, and stage movement. Opera Viva will offer, at the request of students, assistance in applying for singing competitions and finding work with opera houses or through agents.

Opera Viva?s teaching staff includes director András Kürthy, conductor Ferenc Nagy, conductor-coach Szabolcs Sándor, ballet artist György Szakály and conductor András Déri.

Applicants must be no older than 28 in 2006. Applicants will be required to prepare for auditions two songs (from the Baroque, pre-classical, classical, or Romantic periods), a Hungarian song (by Bartók, Kodály, Lajtha, Farkas, or others) and two arias (one in the original language and one in Hungarian). The audition fee is HUF 6,000. Semester fees are HUF 210,000 plus VAT for regular students and HUF 60,000 plus VAT for guest students. The auditions will start at 11:00 on September 4 and 5 in the Klebelsberg Kuno Education, Culture and Arts Centre, at Templom utca 2-10 in Budapest?s District II. The deadline for applying is August 20.
