Orchestra Protests Wrongful Use of Name

English

Nándor Bede Farkas, who heads the Hundred-Member Gypsy Orchestra, said a different orchestra has played performances using the name four times. Attempts were made to negotiate with Raduly after the first time his orchestra wrongly used the name, but a further three concerts followed, also under the same name, Farkas said.

Raduly blames the problem on a misunderstanding with the concerts? organisers. Though he adds that it is understandable that they would probably automatically associate his name with the ensemble.

Raduly has managed the orchestra since 1985, the year it was founded. After he announced he would start a political career, however, Sándor Buffó Rigó, who was picked to fill the position.

Buffó Rigó said the Hundred-Member Gypsy Orchestra planned to start playing more concerts and put a greater emphasis on educating young musicians. In January 2007 and again in the summer, the orchestra will play a series of concerts in France, he said.
