József Pálinkás, who heads the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, said at the opening that the Atomic Energy Museum would help inform the public of the need for the safe generation of nuclear power in the long term.

Visitors to the museum can see power station equipment, including a console from the plant?s simulator, as well as documentation from Paks?s past. Some of the objects could earlier be seen in the plant?s visitors centre, but the museum, in a renovated warehouse at the site, offers more space and interactive displays.

The collection includes contributions from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences? KFKI Atomic Energy Research Institute and Institute of Nuclear Research, the Budapest University of Science?s Nuclear Technical Institute and Debrecen University?s Physics Institute.

The museum is open from 8am until 3pm on weekdays. Groups and researchers are welcome by prior arrangement during opening hours on Wednesdays.
