The centre, opened in March 2005, has presented 565 cultural events, including prestigious classical music concerts, attracting over 700,000 visitors, productions manager András Csonka said.
He added that MÜPA's 2006 programme includes two concerts by Russia's oldest orchestra, the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the French Orchestre des Champs-Elysees conducted by Belgium's Philippe Herreweghe and a performance by American opera singer Jessye Norman. In a third highlight event a festival dedicated to leading 19th century German composer Richard Wagner will be organised with Hungarian conductor Ádám Fischer in the summer.
MÜPA is part of the New Millennium City Centre, a complex of cultural facilities, which includes the National Theatre and will become complete with a conference centre, a spa, a casino and hotels.
