Palace of Arts to Host Tango Festival

English

The 5th Tango Festival, slated for August 29-31, will feature performances by the singer Vera Vámos, the world champion Argentinean tango dancers Guillermo Merlo and Fernanda Ghi; the Hungarian world champion László Budai and his partner Mária Glotz; Andrea Götz and András Szőllősi, the European champion Johanna Kulik and her Latin American partner Santiago Maciel; and the Argentinean Tango Dance Theatre.

The performers will be accompanied by the Budafok Dohnányi Orchestra and Tango Esperimento, which are teaming up for the first time for a production of this scale. The Dohnányi Orchestra and conductor Gábor Hollerung are a fixture on the Budapest scene. Tango Esperimento, which represents the "nuevo" trend - playing with the tools of modern acoustic jazz - has been a regular at the tango festival almost since the beginning.

In addition to the performances, tango courses, from beginner to advanced, film screenings and a wine tasting are on the festival programme.
