The marathon's conductor, Ádám Fischer, called the endeavour an "impossible undertaking" and a "crazy vision", but well worth pursuing.
The marathon performance of the operas - The Rhinegold, The Valkyrie, Siegfried and The Twilight of the Gods - will take place between June 19 and 22.
Among performers at this year's festival will be the American Alan Titus as Wotan in The Rhinegold and Siegried. In The Valkyrie, Wotan will be sung by the Finn Juha Uusitalo. The German Evelyn Herlitzius will take the role of Sieglinde. Her compatriot Christian Franz will sing the title role in Siegfried. (Franz was a sensation in the role of Parsifal at last year's "Wagner in Budapest" Opera Festival.) The Dane Stig Andersen will sing Siegfried in The Valkyrie and The Twilight of the Gods. The British soprano Susan Bullock will sing Brünnhilde and the Finn Matti Salminen will be Hagen.
