Paris honours Hungary at event marking tearing down of Iron Curtain

Representatives of Austria, Germany and Hungary took part in the commemoration of the opening of the Hungarian-Austrian border 20 years ago, an act which allowed tens of thousands of East Germans to escape, precipitating the reunification of Germany.

The spectacle was the result of cooperation between the three countries, with the Paris Hungarian Institute playing a major role, organising a open-air photography exhibition entitled Freedom and Democracy with images from the photo archive of MTI among other events.

The procession of Trabants made its way past major landmarks including the Champs Elysees and the Eiffel Tower.
