Patkó Collection to Travel to New York

English

From New York, the paintings will travel to Washington, then to Los Angeles.

The collection was donated to the State of Hungary after Patkó died in 1983 and is housed in the Vastuskós House in Gyor. While the paintings are in the United States, a travelling exhibition of paintings by Mihály Munkácsy, Hungary's most famous painter, will go on display at the Vastuskós House.

The Munkácsy paintings are from Imre Pákh, whose collection of the Hungarian master's works is unmatched by any other private collector. Pákh has added a newly acquired painting to the exhibition to be shown in Győr, though he declined to reveal the title, saying he wanted it to be a surprise.

Pákh noted that the location of nearly half of Munkácsy's paintings is unknown, though a foundation has been set up to trace these works.
