The festival will be held in conjunction with the Bridges Conference, which explores the relationship between mathematics and art, and the World Haiku conference.
?Since Pécs bears the European Capital of Culture title this year, we gave it all we could,? said Judit Sági Woger, head of the Pécs Origami Club, which celebrates its 20th anniversary next year. ?Our exhibition Origami Geometrics to open on July 23 is linked to the Bridges World Conference and the members of our club will teach conference guests geometric folding on July 26,? she added.
An origami exhibition entitled Japanese Holidays will open at the Dóm Glyptotec on August 2, and the National Origami Conference will be held at the Miroslav Krleza Training Centre between August 13 and 15. The guest of honour at the meeting will be the US-based Vietnamese origami artist Dinh Truong Giang.
An exhibition of Japanese-style wood engravings by the Hungarian artist Jenő Csík will open during the period.
The World Haiku Conference will take place on August 6-8. The chief organiser is Judit Vihar, who also heads the Hungarian-Japanese Friendship Society.
Vihar teaches haiku at one of Hungary?s top universities and will show some of their work in public spaces around the city.
