The city, in its role as a ?gate to the Balkans?, is inviting artists from the Balkans ?to create a joint general art project that ignores national frontiers and language barriers,? the organisers say.
The project is being dubbed an ?Art Picnic?, which pays homage to the Hungarian ?picnic? in 1989 that precluded the fall of the Iron Curtain as well as referring to the collective nature of the project.
PanBalkan Art Picnic will feature a street piano project called ?Play me, I?m Yours? and a ?Promenade of Benches an Cities? which presents the six cities that competed in the second round of the 2010 European Capital of Culture bid in the form of bench sculptures.
An exhibition of graphic work by young arts will take place in a ?land-art park?.
