Construction of the HUF 6 billion building will start in the autumn of 2008 and be completed in time for 2010. Though its main function will be to serve as a concert hall for classical music performances, it will also be used as a conference centre, said European Capital of Culture 2010 programme director for Pécs András Mészáros.

The building was designed by Budapest's Architect Studio Kft.
Applications for permits for other big projects for 2010 will also be submitted in the coming weeks, Mészáros said.

Pécs has a HUF 45 billion budget for its European Capital of Culture 2010 programme. The cost of events will come to HUF 9 billion and the rest will go toward investments. Funding is coming from the European Union, the state of Hungary, sponsors and the local council.
