Pécs last hosted the event in 1996. Since 1992, Pecs has been represented at the European youth culture week by the Leöwey Dance Ensemble which promotes ethnic German dances in Hungary.
The event aims to promote links between European youth who believe it important to nurture ethnic and folk traditions.
International groups will perform every evening on the open-air stage set up in Káptalan Square and on Dóm Square.
Participants will include the Rhenania Alliance dance ensemble from France, The Milesians Traditional Group from Ireland, the Vetra ensemble from Lithuania, Hannover Minstrels from Germany, Grupo de Dancas Postiguet from Spain, Lyceum Hellinidon from Greece and the Zeljeznicar folklore ensemble from Croatia.
The Gruppo Folcloristico San Gemiliano ensemble from Italy works towards nurturing the cultural heritage of Sardinia and Banater Rosmarein from Romania will present dances and songs of the Danube Swabians from the Banat region.
