The city plans to allocate a total budget of 1.8 billion forints (EUR 6.55 million) for the ambitious programme. Of this amount, about 600 million forints (EUR 1.18 million) will be spent on marketing abroad, Tamas Szalay said at Budapest's Sziget Festival, starting on Wednesday.
Pecs will assume the title of European capital of culture along with Essen and Istanbul in 2010.
Pecs has cooperated with the other two prospective cultural capitals for some years, and concluded cooperation agreements with several cities, some in the West Balkans.
For instance, Pecs will stage a three-day "mini festival" in Zagreb in October. The series of events are expected to attract the most visitors from neighbouring countries, northern Europe and the Netherlands, he said.
The cultural director announced that the official website of the Pecs 2010 project would also be available in English, German and Croatian during the Sziget Festival between August 12-17.
