Méhes, who studied in Pécs and Budapest, was earlier the artistic director for the Pécs2010 programme. He will host a kind of handing over of the baton between the Austrian city of Linz, which was a 2009 European Capital of Culture, and Pécs at the culture institute in Vienna on January 7. The cultural director for the city of Linz as well Pécs mayor Zsolt Páva will participate at the event.
The Collegium Hungaricum will open an exhibition of work by artists recognised by the Esterházy Foundation on January 26. Hungarian Minister of Education and Culture István Hiller and his Austrian counterpart Claudia Schmied are expected to attend.
Méhes was earlier the chancellor of the Andrássy German Language University in Budapest.
