The renovation and new look of the theatre bears the mark of young designers from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest (MOME). Most of the cost of the renovation was undertaken by the theatre's main sponsor.
The theatre still wants to repair its air conditioning system with the help of the Budapest Municipal Council, but that will require the approval of the residents in the building where the theatre is located, said Enikő Eszenyi, director of the Comedy Theatre. District V. mayor Antal Rogán has promised support for the renovation of the theatre's façade, she added.
Thanks to the cooperation with MOME, the Comedy Theatre has a new look, complete with a new logo.
Eszenyi stressed the importance of working together with young people, noting that the set for the theatre's first premiere of the season, Othello, was created by students of the Hungarian Fine Arts University, and the music was written by Ákos Zságer-Varga, the bass guitarist for the pop group Zagar.
Othello can be seen at the Comedy Theatre from October 17. On October 24, the theatre will show Ferenc Molnár's Game in the Castle.
On October 11, the Pest Theatre will put on a production of The Jungle Book for disadvantaged children in cooperation with the Hungarian Anti-racism Foundation (MARA).
