The Masi Foundation praises Esterházy for promoting the literary traditions of Central Europe in his novels.
Esterházy will collect his award at the Teatro Filarmonico.
The prize is named after a gold coin minted by the Republic of Venice in the 14th century that became a symbol of lasting value for centuries.
