The photographs, which went on display at the Sirály Cultural Centre in Király utca on April 28, show several demonstrations organised by ÓVÁS against the backdrop of buildings in the Old Jewish Quarter which have since been demolished.
The exhibition is part of a last-ditch effort to prevent the construction of an eight-story building next to the Grand Synagogue - the region's largest - which architectural preservationists fear will do irreparable damage to the area's historic character.
In a recently published report, an expert commissioned by UNESCO's International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) said developments in Budapest's Old Jewish Quarter were unacceptable in light of the area's status as a World Heritage Site.
The architect Michel Polge, of the ICOMOS Historical Cities and Villages International Committee, evaluated Budapest's old Jewish Quarter at the invitation of the Secretariat of the Hungarian National World Heritage Committee and the Budapest City Council in November 2007.
