Pianist Rév to Play Concert for 90th Birthday

English

The concert, organised by Strém Concert and the French Institute will start at 19:30. It will feature as well the French pianist Juliana Steinbach, Hungarian pianist Emese Mali, and a performance of Mozart?s Concerto in E flat major for two pianos by Dénes Várjon and Izabella Simon, accompanied by the Weiner-Szász Chamber Orchestra conducted by András Keller.

After playing a concert in Hungary in the early 1960s which she deemed unsuccessful, Rév stopped performing and concentrated on instruction. Although well-known as a teacher among Hungary?s professional pianists, she remained virtually unknown to the broader public.

In 2003, at the age of 87, she decided to return to the stage, performing a Schubert evening at the Hungarian Academy of Science to great acclaim. Later, she played a concert with the Budapest Festival Orchestra at the Music Academy, then, to mark her 89th birthday, a solo concert of works by Debussy at the newly opened Palace of the Arts.

Before the concert, Minister of Culture András Bozóki will present Rév with the Pro Cultura Award in recognition of her lifetime achievement.
