The group, which includes Tamás Nagy, János Somosi, Sándor Galambos, Balázs Mechle, Béla Gál, Áron Vass-Eysen, Lívia Varga, Péter Ceglédi and Ferenc Haász, will soon sign a contract on preparing the final plans for the space.

The Grand Exhibition Space will be built at the site of the open-air theatre in Pécs's Káptalan Street. According to the plan, the space will be made up of three parts connected by underground passageways. It is expected to cost HUF 3.5 billion to build.

A tender to plan the space was called in March, and 42 applications were received.

The Grand Exhibition Space is one of the main projects in Pécs's European Capital of Culture Programme. It is expected to draw temporary and travelling exhibitions to the city as well as serve as the new home for the Modern Hungarian Art Museum.

Pécs mayor Péter Tasnádi has said all preparations for 2010 will be completed on time, despite "exaggerated worries" that deadlines will be missed.
