"Ticket sales started on May 8. Tickets for eight performances were gone within an hour, and tickets for the biggest performances - to be brought by the Bárka Theatre, the Vígszínház, the Örkény Theatre and the Katona József Theatre - were gone by the end of the day," POSZT director István Simon said. Few tickets are likely to be left when the festival kicks off on June 7, he said.
The 7th POSZT will present 14 plays in competition between June 7 and 16. The plays have been selected this year by director János Dömölky from 123 performances.
In addition to the plays in competition, 150-200 plays, exhibitions, concerts and meetings are slated to take place during the week. Performances will take place in the local theatres as well as on the Tettye stage, the open air stage in Káptalan utca and the Anna udvar.
This year's festival will operate with a budget of HUF 140 million, HUF 20 million less than last year's because of reduced state funding.
In 2006, POSZT and its accompanying events drew some 50,000 people to Pécs.
