The film, called Puskás, Hungary, is directed by Tamás Almási with music by Lázsló Dés. It shows the sports legend's life through letters, documents, archival footage and interviews with people who knew Puskás.
"First the title of the film was The Real Puskás, then I thought that I'm not the one to say who the real Puskás is," said Almási. "The documentary film is just as subjective a medium as the feature film. Puskás had to be constructed, obviously on the basis of what I read from the documents, the letters and the archive materials. A picture of a person came together, the history of a life, and I tried to mold this into the form of a film."
Puskás (1927-2006) was captain of the Hungarian national team in the 1950, popularly known as the Mighty Magyars. After the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, Puskás emigrated to Spain, where he played for Real Madrid.
After retiring from playing, Puskás became a coach, leading teams in cities all over the world.
Puskás died in 2006 and was interred in St. Stephen's Basilica in Budapest.
