President Pál Schmitt praised the cooperation of the local council and the central government on the project, which was supported by the European Union and the Norway Fund, and held it up as an example to be followed.
The renovation of the landmark was supported with 1.7 billion forints from the New Széchenyi Plan, said state secretary for development and coordination at the National Development Ministry Ágnes Molnár.
Renovating the third wing of the building cost more than 900 million forints, said mayor András Cser-Palkovics. The bond of community in the Székesfehérvár can be measured by residents? attention to the heritage of the city?s past, he added.
The renovation of the landmark was completed at a total cost of more than 2 billion forints over five years.
The third wing of the renovated building contains a multifunctional events room and will house the Moskovszky dollhouse collection and a bequeathed collection of work by the graphic artist and book illustrator László Réber.
The building bears the name of the three families who lived in it and expanded it to its present form in the second half of the 18th century: the Font family, active in commerce; the Hiemer family of butchers; and the noble Caraffa family.
