Roberta Gambarini to Sing at A38

English

Gambarini, born in Turin, was singing and performing in jazz clubs around Northern Italy by the time she was 17. At the age of 18, she decided to move to Milan to pursue a career as a jazz singer.

Soon after her move to Milan, while still in her teens, Roberta took third place in a national jazz radio competition on TV, leading to performance opportunities at jazz festivals throughout Italy. She has performed in jazz broadcasts on Italian radio and TV and has recorded since 1986.

In 1998 she moved to the United States with a scholarship from the New England Conservatory in Boston. Two weeks later, Roberta stunned many in the jazz world with a third place finish at the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocal Competition.

Since then, she has performed with Michael Brecker, Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Slide Hampton, Roy Hargrove, Jimmy Heath, Hank Jones, Christian McBride and Toots Thielemans, amongst many others. She has sung at Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Town Hall and Walt Disney Concert Hall, as well as at jazz festivals in Barbados, London, Monterey and Toronto.

"Easy to Love", Gambarini's first solo album, released last summer, is among this year's Grammy nominees.

The A38 Ship is docked south of the Petőfi Bridge in Buda.
Tickets for the concert cost HUF 2,500 to stand and HUF 4,900 for a seat.
