The exhibition, co-organised by the Hungarian National Museum and supported with a grant of almost HUF 4 million from the Ministry of Education and Culture, shows some of Capa's best war photographs as well as portraits of Ernest Hemingway, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and the actress Ingrid Bergman. Capa was equally at home on the set of Hitchcock's Notorious photographing Bergman as he was on the battlefield. His images of the Spanish Civil War and World War II have become fixtures in the minds of generations, almost radiating the heat of battle. The photographer died after stepping on a landmine while covering the First Indochina War.
The exhibition can be seen in Salgótarján until November 15. Afterward, it will travel to Paks, Békéscsaba, Szolnok, Eger and Szombathely.
Another, unrelated exhibition of Capa photographs is showing in Budapest's Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art (LUMU).
