Sealhenry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel, better known as Seal, was born to a Brazlian mother and a Nigerian father in London in 1963. He graduated with a degree in architecture but in the late 70s decided to become a singer.
After a short time singing in local clubs and bars in the 80s, he joined Push, a British funk band, and toured with them in Japan. He joined a blues band in Thailand for a while before starting on his on journey through India. When Seal returned to England, he impressed house and techno producer Adamski, who asked him to sing on "Killer", which was a big hit in 1990.
Seal released his self-titled debut album, produced by Trevor Horn, who worked with Frankie Goes to Hollywood, on the ZTT Records label. The album received both popular and critical acclaim in the US and the UK.
After a three-year hiatus, Seal released his second album, also called Seal. The album, which featured the singles "Prayer for the Dying", "Newborn Friend" and "Kiss from a Rose", was nominated for a Grammy. "Kiss from a Rose", which was featured in the film Batman Forever, won Record of the Year and Song of the Year at the 1996 Grammies.
Seal's third album, Human Being, was panned, and he waited five years before putting out another: Seal IV.
His latest album, System, was released in the UK in November 2007. The album was produced by Stuart Price, who also produced Madonna's latest album.
