Semi-finalists Selected for Jazz Violin Competition

English

The eleven talented musicians will continue to compete, playing several concerts at Hungarian Radio?s Marble Hall as part of the popular Friday Marble Hall Jazz series, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last year. The concerts will be recorded and broadcast by Bartok Rádió on 12 March, 2 April, and 30 April as part of competition organizer Róbert Maloschik's "Jazz Specials" on Sunday evenings.

Listeners following the programmes will be invited to help the organizers by casting their votes for their favourite performer on ballots published in programme weekly ?Részletes RTV?. The slips, published in the weekly?s tenth issue for this year, may be mailed to: Jazzverseny ? Bartók Rádió, 1800 Budapest, Bródy Sándor utca 5-7.

A further six contestants will be eliminated at the concerts, leaving five finalists to play a concert on 26 May. The concert will be aired live by Bartók Rádió.

The finalists will each have 15 minutes to perform two pieces, accompanied by piano and drums. One of the pieces ? ?Oh Lady Be Good? ? has been assigned by the jury, and the other one may be chosen by the finalist. The order in which the finalists will play will be decided 30 minutes before the start of the concert.

The accompanists at the finalist concert will be Gábor Cseke, Sándor Sárkány and Tamás Berdisz. Members of the jury will include violinists Sándor Szabó, Csaba Deseő, and Lajos Horváth Kathy, as well as saxophonist Mihály Borbély, and jazz historian Attila Csányi.
