This, year the equivalent of several hundred thousand euros has been transferred from the ministry from a fund established to rehabilitate landmarks, library director Szabolcs Szonda told the regional Hungarian-language paper Krónika. The amount was enough to make preparations and launch the renovation, he added.
The entire project will probably take several years, he said, adding that the period would depend on the pace with which the support is transferred.
The project will convert the library?s cellar into a storage area, freeing up more space on the ground floor for services, including a cafeteria. A guest room and a multifunctional space will be built in the building?s loft.
The library?s building was completed in 1832.
