Many of the innovative designs on display in Solinfo's showroom will be shown in April at Euroluce, the Biennial International Lighting Exhibition in Milan.
Visitors can see Dixon's Mirror Ball line, lamps made of plastic polycarbonate metalised with real chrome; his Slab range of chairs and tables made of specially selected crowned oak that has a deeply brushed and heavily lacquered surface; as well as his Wingback chair, a traditionally made, fully upholstered high-back lounge chair.
From the artists new collection are the Fluoro Shade, a floor or pendant light made of white polycarbonate with a matt fluorescent orange coating, and his Pressed Glass line of bowl, lens and tube lights made of cast glass that bear the inclusions and imperfections of the manufacturing process.
Tom Dixon, born in 1959, began designing furniture - without any formal design training - in his early 20s after suffering an injury in a motorcycle accident. He used his welding skills to create a variety of objects, including the S-Bend chair, which was later discovered by Italian furniture maker Cappellini.
