Swing Festival Set For August 25?27

English

The success of last year?s festival as well as the tragic events the city of New Orleans suffered shortly afterward inspired the event?s organisers to present again the authentic sound of swing.

On August 25, the Gyárfás Trio (István Gyárfás - guitar, Péter Czakó ? double bass, Balázs Cseh - drums) will take to the stage with violinist Csaba Deseő, pianist Gábor Cseke and trumpet and trombone player Béla Szalóky. The singer Adrienn Zsédenyi, who has achieved no small degree of fame as a member of the Cotton Club Singers will perform with the ensemble, as will two Croatian artists: singer Goga Kovačić and trumpeter Ladislav Fidri.

On August 26, Jazz Steps will play the melodies of Louis Armstrong, followed by old standards to be performed by the Trevor Richards New Orleans All Stars, which includes among its members musicians from the US and the UK. Singing with the band will be Harriet Louis.

On the last day of the festival, Hungary?s Little Jazz Band, headed by Attila Korb, will use two woodwinds, a double bass and a tuba to bring ragtime and Dixieland melodies to the Palace of Arts. Their programme will set the stage for the 17-member Melody Makers from Prague. The Melody Makers will play numbers ranging from the early jazz era to the golden era of 40s swing featuring the lovely voices of the Havelka Sisters.
