Szeged Festival Celebrates 80th Anniversary

The Tragedy of Man, one of the most famous works of Hungarian literature, has long been a popular piece at the Szeged Open-Air Festival. It has been performed 61 times over 16 summers in the square in front of the city?s church. Next year?s production will be directed by Attila Vidnyánszky.

 
Other premieres on the programme are Ferenc Lehár?s operetta The Merry Widow and a new musical by László Dés, István Nemes, György Böhm, György Korcsmáros and Péter Horváth called Somewhere in Europe.
 
Carmen, Puccini?s Gianni Schicchi and János Vajda?s Mario and the Magician are also on the programme, as is Popeye, a musical production based on the work of László Darvasi with music by Pierrot and text by Ganxsta Zolee.
