Sziget Festival Welcomes 4 Millionth Visitor

The 4 millionth visitor was Ferenc Schmidt, who arrived from Kosice, Slovakia, with his wife. Schmidt said he was a regular at the Sziget Festival and was very pleased to accept a pass allowing him free admission to all future Sziget Festival events.

In spite of an impressive line-up of acts on Thursday, visitor numbers dipped to 48,000 because of a downpour in the afternoon. On the previous days, visitor numbers reached 50,000.

Festival goers will be sad to learn that a concert by former Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell scheduled for the festival's last day has been cancelled because of strained vocal chords.

"Chris was diagnosed with strained vocal chords and the doctor strongly advised that he take 10 days to two weeks off from singing onstage to prevent injury. Chris deeply regrets any disappointment this may cause his fans in Poland, Hungary, and Austria, and promises to come back as soon as he can," a spokesman for Cornell said on his website.
