Szigeti Violin, Viola Contest Slated for September

The contest is being opened to violists, as well as violinists, for the first time this year.
 
The competition was launched in 1933, in memory of the Szigeti, who was a student of Jenő Hubay.
 
The Russian violinist Eduard Grach will chair the contest?s jury. The Hungarian members will be László Bársony, Eszter Perényi and Barnabás Kelemen. Other members will be Gérad Caussé from France, the Austrian Siegfried Führinger, Rivka Golani from the UK, the American Lucie Robert and Shimizu Takashi of Japan.
 
The winner of this year?s contest will get a cash prize of 8,000 euros. The runner-up will get 6,000 euros and the purse for third place will be 4,000 euros.
 
Ádám Banda was the winner of the last Szigeti Violin Competition, held in 2007.
