The ten-day festival will feature more than 50 events at 19 cities and towns in the northeastern Zemplen region, including exhibitions, concerts, theatre and dance productions, festival director Miklos Turjanyi told MTI.
A festival highlight is a concert by the famous Hungarian soprano Andrea Rost, who has performed at London's Royal Opera, Milan's Scala and New York's Metropolitan Opera.
This year's premiere on the programme will be an interpretation by drama academy students of Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Music for jazz lovers will include the Bolla Quartet, the Juli Fabian Jazz Riff and the Babos Project Special.
There will be a performance of the "condensed" works of Shakespeare, in English, and the castle of Szerencs will give home to a tribute to Hungary's Renaissance King Matthias.
