The Eighth Day of the Week tells the story of a woman caught in the clutches of the real estate mafia. The film's screenplay, written by Elek, won the top prize at the Hungarian Film Week. The 70-year-old Elek will attend the screening on March 13.
The seven-day festival which shows feature films, documentaries and shorts made by women about issues which concern women starts March 8. In addition to screenings, several directors will be on hand for question-and-answer sessions.
Andrea Stakas's drama Das Fraulein (The Young Woman) will open the festival. The film won top awards in Locarno and Sarajevo last year. Also on the programme is La bestia nel cuore (Don't Tell), Christina Comencini's film about incest, whose lead, Giovanna Mezzogiorno, received a top award at last year's Venice Film Festival. Angelina Maccarone's Verfolgt (Hounded) shows the feelings a woman probation officer develops for an offender. Ruxandra Zenides's film Ryna paints the portrait of a Romanian woman. Princesas, which will close the festival, is about two prostitutes in Madrid.
