Heves County and the City of Eger plan to continue operating the theatre together, said deputy-chairman of the council of Heves County József Merczel. A plan for the company form the theatre will take is being drawn up, but the final decision on the matter will not be taken until after local elections in autumn, he said.
Mr Merczel stressed that the objective was to keep the theatre in Eger.
"The past year was quite problematic and demanding, in emotional terms as well, though emotional stability is absolutely necessary for this type of work," the theatre?s director Tibor Csizmadia said, summing up the year. He added that two big issues must still be addressed: funding for the theatre, and its form of incorporation. As long as these questions remain unanswered, the theatre will be difficult to run. Regardless, the theatre plans to tour a number of cities in Hungary, including the capital, in the 2006/2007 season; it will invite a foreign guest director, and it will organise an international theatre festival with the participation of five countries. Also on the programme will be a production of Te rongyos élet (Oh, Bloody Life) to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution, Csizmadia said.
Csizmadia was recently reappointed to head the theatre for another five-year term.
