The Thália Theatre's recently renovated Arizona Studio will host many of the theatre productions. The studio's stage and seating is moveable, which makes it idea for hosting different productions, said Zsófia Zimányi, who directs the Thália Theatre as well as the Budapest Spring Festival.
Among the premieres are The Dreamers, an adaptation of Bernardo Bertolucci's film and Gilbert Adair's scenario by György Baráthy, directed by Dániel Dicső; Camélias, adapted from Dumas' The Lady of the Camellias by Nóra Sediánszky; and Victor Hugo's Ruy Blas, directed by András Léner. All three productions will show at the Thália.
The Palace of Arts will host a production of József Katona's Bánk Bán by the Szigligeti Theatre of Szolnok, directed by Imre Kerényi.
The National Theatre will bring a production of Shakespeare's King Lear, directed by Péter Gothár and with János Kulka in the title role, to the festival programme. The theatre's director, Róber Alföldi, will play Cornwall in the production.
Musical fans will appreciate the premiere of Rebecca - The Mistress of Manderley, based on the novel by Daphne du Maurier, at the Budapest Operetta Theatre. The musical is the latest project of the Hungarian-born, Grammy-winning composer Sylvester Lévay and lyricist Michael Kunze, the team behind the musicals Elisabeth and Mozart!
Also on the programme is a performance of Rossini's Le Comte Ory at the Thália by the Szeged National Theatre.
