Performances of Wild Duck will start on October 5.
The next production on the 2007-2008 season programme will be a crime-comedy by the team of Robert Thomas and Jack Popplewell. László Konter will direct the piece, which will show first on December 7.
In the second half of the season, a theatrical version of Stendhal's The Red and The Black by Zsolt Pozsgai will be staged. The premiere of the drama will take place February 8.
On March 28, the theatre will introduce a production of the musical Good Evening Summer, Good Evening Love, by Gábor Presser and Endre Fejes, directed by Attila Király.
The Jókai Theatre will also continue its children's programme this season. From November 8, children can see Béla Szente's and Levente Gulyás's musical fairy tale The Judge of Cluj, directed by János Greifeinstein. In April, the theatre will show another musical fairy tale: Karnauhova-Brauszevics's Tale of the Fire-red Flower.
Fekete, who took over as director in June, said the theatre must make better use of its troupe of actors. With this aim in mind, it will start supporting shows the actors put on outside of the programme. He also said the theatre must strengthen the bond with its audience. Starting next year, it will introduce special tickets for teenagers allowing them to see rehearsals and follow the process of creating a production to the final act.
László Domokos of the Békés County Council said the theatre's actors would get a 20pc pay raise this season, in spite of central government austerity measures. Fekete noted, however, that the average monthly pay of the actors in the Jókai Theatre troupe is just 120,000, well under the national average.
