The statue, by the award-winning sculptor Péter Raab Párkányi, has been three years in the planning. The order was finally placed for the statue by outgoing director Tamás Jordán in May, and the plaster model was approved by the theatre's new director Róbert Alföldi a month later.
The statue will take its place among the many other statues of famous actors - some also sculpted by Párkányi -- in the park in front of the National Theatre.
