Titanic Film Programme Finalised

English

The films - everything from Japanese anime to horror films to documentaries - will be shown in eight sections. In addition to the sections familiar to festival-goers in earlier years, the organisers have added a "Northern Lights" section to feature the best films from Finnish, Danish and Icelandic directors. Among the films in the section will be the Danish director Kaspar Barfoed's The Candidate, Terribly Lucky by his compatriot Henrik Ruben Genz, and White Night Wedding, the latest film by Iceland's Baltasar Kormákur, who was among the winners of last year's Titanic and heads the jury of this year's festival.

The old and familiar elements of the Titanic will also remain at this year's festival. Hong Kong director Derek Kwok Chi-kin will be represented in the Elements of Crime section with his organised crime thriller The Moss. Matteo Garrone explores organised crime, too, but in Naples, in his film Gomorrah, which examines the Camorra. From Australia comes Steven Kastrissios's The Horseman, which mixes grisly action with tender drama.

In the World Cinema section, Lucky Miles, a film by Michael James Rowland, treats a political theme (illegal immigrants) with laconic humour.

The Music for All section features a documentary about the gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello.
