Director of the Pécs2010 Management Centre Csaba Ruzsa said the building was about 40 percent complete. The project is 4-6 weeks ahead of schedule and is expected to be completed by the deadline in the summer, he added.

Local and state officials laid the cornerstone of the Regional Library and Information Centre for Southern Transdanubia in mid-September. The 13,000-square-metre, four-storey complex, nicknamed "the hive", will be the new home to the city library, the county library, the central library of Pécs University, as well as the school's law and economics libraries. It will include two lecture halls with capacity to seat 200 and a conference room big enough to seat 150.

Offering a rundown of progress on other important 2010 European Capital of Culture investments, Ruzsa said a project to freshen up the public spaces and parks in Pécs was almost complete, new buildings in the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter would be opened in several phases starting in the spring, and the first level of a new concert hall would soon be finished.
