A scholarly conference on Saint Martin, the patron of French kings and the Benedictine Abbey of Pannonhalma in Hungary, will start on February 4. Martin was born at Savaria (now Szombathely, W Hungary), a Roman fortress of Pannonia province, in 316. After serving in a Roman legion, he was baptised at the age of 18 and became the bishop of Tours.
