Paraszkay's poster, which spells "tolerance" using symbols and letters of different cultures and religions, was one of 32 works picked from more than a thousand submissions from 82 countries to represent the year. The posters will be displayed and distributed at UNESCO headquarters.
"The main goal of the Year will be to demonstrate the benefits of cultural diversity by acknowledging the importance of the constant transfers and exchanges between cultures and the ties forged between them since the dawn of humanity," UNESCO says.
Hungary is participating in the Year with four programmes: an exhibition examining the common routes of Euro-Mediterranean music at the Museum of Trade and Tourism; a poetry competition in Balatonfüred named after the Nobel Prize-winning Italian author Salvatore Quasimodo, who spent time in the spa town; a contemporary drama festival hosted by the Hungarian Theatre Museum; and a summer university focusing on "diversity management in culture, politics and society" at the Corvinus University.
