VOLT Draws Record Crowd

The music festival drew 30,000 on its last day, a number unmatched since a concert by The Prodigy in 2007.

This year was the first that passes were sold out already on the first day, the organisers said. It was also the first time the festival was paid a visit by the President of the Republic Pál Schmitt.

Schmitt visited the event because it was the ?closing party? of Hungary?s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the firs half of 2011.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán?s wife, Anikó Lévai, also came to the festival with friends on Thursday.

Among the big attractions at this year?s festival were the acts Moby, Sum41, Pendulum, My Chemical Romance and Thirty Seconds to Mars.

VOLT Festival organisers want to bring Thirty Seconds to Mars back to Hungary for their Sziget Festival, a week-long musical extravaganza on an island in the Danube late in summer, to fill in for Amy Winehouse, who earlier cancelled her show.
