(MTI) - President Pal Schmitt will officially open the festival on Wednesday evening, although two of the four stages already offers concerts on Tuesday.
The festival running until July 2 features international acts such as Moby and bands My Chemical Romance, Monster Magnet Primus, and 30 Seconds to Mars, featuring the popular actor Jared Leto.
The programme also includes Canadian rock band Sum 41, British indie pop duo The Ting Tings, Australia's Dub FX, Australian-British drum and bass and electronic rock band Pendulum, German electronic musician Paul Kalkbrenner and Irish-American hip hop group House of Pain.
The European Roma Strategy approved in May was one of the highlighted aims of Hungary's EU presidency, and Volt Festival will reflects this with an event called European Gipsy Rocks! on June 29. The international lineup will include performers from 27 countries, including the Serbian director Emir Kusturica's No Smoking Orchestra, the UK's Asian Dub Foundation, Mahala Rai Banda from Romania, Lo'Jo from France, Austrian-Hungarian-Czech collective Deladap and the Italian group Figli di Madre.
The festival grounds will host "Europe Kitchen", demonstrating the gastronomy of each EU member country.
Some 70-80,000 visitors are expected at this year's Volt Festival.
